Backyard beekeeping for the love of bees and honey.

This is my rooftop hive prepared for winter. I have moved it against the house to provide a wind break from the winter winds. It is wrapped in tar paper, has a candyboard installed and is strapped down with a cargo strap since it is up on the roof where it can get very windy.

This is my swarm which I captured and hived on June 11. After 15 days the Queen is finally laying eggs. They look like little grains of rice against the black foundation, nestled firmly inside the center of the cells.
